Welcome to the Blue Goose Alliance

We would like to welcome you to our website.  The  Blue Goose Alliance is a national 501c(3) nonprofit conservation organization, registered in New Mexico and operates entirely on donations.  You can make Tax deductible donations to the BGA using Paypal by clicking on the "Donate" button on the right.  Your contributions will assist us in carrying our our work.  All donations will be acknowledged.

Our mission is to promote the establishment of a National Wildlife Refuge Service as a separate agency within the U.S. Department of the Interior.

Why was the Alliance formed?

A number of people interested in the National Wildlife Refuge System came to believe that the time was right to organize a campaign which would lead to a separate agency for the National Wildlife Refuge System.  Years of experience have shown that the Fish and Wildlife Service cannot install the type of organizational structure, provide the leadership, or obtain the level of funding needed by the Refuge System to achieve its full potential, ie., to "Fulfill the Promise" made in 1903 with the establishment of Pelican Island NWR, the first unit of the Refuge System.

The Refuge System is America's only federal land conservation system devoted primarily to the conservation of our fish, wildlife, plants, and habitats.  Refuges are found in all states and U.S. Territories.  They benefit people in many ways including providing places to experience and learn about wildlife in their natural environment.  The many challenges faced by wildlife in today's complex, human-dominated world require a Refuge System operating at its highest potential rather than one hampered by inattention and diversions.  Read the full story:  The Case for A National Wildlife Refuge Service.

Membership in the Blue Goose Alliance

The Alliance has two levels of membership.  These are general and affiliate memberships.  There is no cost to join the Alliance and there are no dues.  The Alliance operates entirely on donations.

General membership in the Alliance is open to all who are interested in the concept of separate agency status for the National Wildlife Refuge System and who would like to keep current with the Alliance's efforts and activities. These members receive, by email, general information about the Alliance, the National Wildlife Refuge System, and related issues. Any member can post messages of interest to the group and message exchanges among members concerning the Refuge System are encouraged.  Since this is an open membership email forum with self subscription, we have experienced occasional but infrequent misuse.  We will make every effort to thwart such abuses.  You can join as a general member by clicking on the "Register" button at the top of the page.

Affiliate members make up the core of the Alliance, are it's main working group, and are nominated and sponsored for affiliate membership by another affiliate member.  Many affiliates are former employees of the Refuge System, but others come from all walks of life.  All have a deep and abiding dedication to the mission of the Alliance and a willingness to commit time, energy, and effort to its mission.  If you are interested in becoming an affiliate member, use the Contact link at the bottom of the page and provide a brief description of your background and interest. An affiliate member will contact you about membership.

The Blue Goose Alliance Bulletin

The Alliance publishes Bulletins on an "as needed" basis.  These may be a general information release on Alliance activity, identification of critical issues, major noteworthy news, Alliance position statements, or other items.  Past issues of the Bulletin are available in a PDF format under the Bulletins tab above.  You can subscribe to the emailed Bulletin by clicking the the  "Subscribe to the  Bulletin"  button in the adjacent column.
